mmmmm....plastic..

Joking of course...great choice, the XDs have a great reputation for reliability and are more than accurate enough for a combat handgun. Now that you own it I would suggest you start stocking up on goodies for it. For starters I would recommend at least ten magazines total and a decent holster. One thing the XDs are not known for is their triggers, I know of several smiths that work wonders with the XD trigger, makes a huge difference.

And ammo...start looking at buying case lots...you'll save money over buying it 50 rounds at a time. Midway has Mag Tech at 39 cents a round but you may be able to do better with some hunting. I would recommend staying away from the steel cased Wolf tho the Wolf Gold is ok. The steel cases can be tough on the extractor. Shoot more and shoot more often...it's good for the industry!

I've had several Springfield XDs - and they have all been 100% reliable and very accurate. The tactical .45 you bought will probably have incredible accuracy - I had no problem doing nice very tight groups at 15 yards with even the 3" subcompact that I had.

Enjoy.

Nice! My dealer loves XDs, and I finally got one a few months ago (.40 subcompact). I'm really happy with it.

Didn't notice anything about the trigger. Each pull broke cleanly and I got really nice groups with the little 3" barrel. Noticed a lot less recoil than I get with my Sig P229, too.

Congrats and enjoy!

I think you would have to feel a tuned trigger to understand the difference it makes...it is night and day. My brother had his done and it is now every bit as smooth as the double action on my competition revolver. It is truly amazing.

Does anybody know if the XD mags are interchangable with the XDM mags?

Envious dude. The XD is calling my name, though a little less loud as it is the 9mm version doing the calling, but seeing yours is all the more beautiful.
No one around here will take my Glock for trade, so I'm just gonna save up and have the best of both worlds.

The XD is a sharp looking gun though, that thing is sweet.

NO they are not.

OK thanks, I picked up a XDM 9mm a while ago and love it, but only have 2 mags for it. I've been holding off buying more since they are expensive.

Thanks for the comments and tips guys. :)

Does anyone have any recommendations for after market holsters and other accessories?

If this is your first handgun, you really did good. I have one in Dark Earth.
Like to see what you would choose for a shotgun and battle rifle!

I would also recomend that you get another as a backup and in a worst case secnario you can strip it down for parts.

Two is one

One is none.

First shotgun = Saiga 12
First battle rifle = Saiga 7.62

Just picked up an XD 9 a couple months ago. Very enjoyable gun to shoot. The XD45 is very purdy!

The trigger does seem to have a long travel, but I actually like that extra pull.. As a new shooter it's helping train me to not anticipate the shot (pull slow, wait for the 'suprise' when it goes off).

Very nice choice... 10 magazines will get pricy though.. wow.. Thought I was doing ok w/ 3....

Great choice. I've got a XDM and have put a couple of thousand rounds through it. It's a very reliable gun. Two friends have XD's and XDM's and they are also very satisfied with their guns.
